Maharani's Restaurant in San Francisco

I found this Indian cuisine restaurant called Maharani's in an article about the most romantic restaurants in San Francisco. The Handsome Husband loves Indian food and is always on the search for a good restaurant, so I thought this would be fun. The restaurant is in the Tenderloin area of San Francisco and on first entering, I thought it looked a little run down. They took us back to this section called the "Fantasy Room". It is dark and has mood lighting. Our table was covered in rose petals and candles.
Here is a picture of us at our booth. The flash really lit up the place, but it was very romantic. The beads hang down in front of the table for a more enclosed and private feel.
HH said it was the best Indian food he has ever had, even compared to his many London trips where the city has a huge Indian population and a street called Brick Lane that is known for its Indian restaurants. This salad was amazing. It had pomegranate seeds, citrus, tomato, cheese, candied pecans and maybe mango. The yellow vinaigrette dressing was sooo good. I'm going to have to experiment to get this salad just right. We each had a prix fix menu with a sampling of 4 different entrees. Each dish was incredibly delicious! My dessert was rice in milk and was very sweet, at first I didn't want to try it, but I'm so glad I did. Very good. We were very pleased with the choice and would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Sounds delicious! My first experience with Indian food was in a little hole in the wall place in San Bruno and the food was so good...I had nothing to compare it to, of course.

Hi Janie, it must be fate that I stopped by tonight, as we used to live in London and spent a lot of time eating Indian food in Brick Lane and now we live in the bay area and we have been looking for a good Indian place for ages, we are gonna have to pay them a visit next time we are in the city, glad you had a wonderful time, Kathy.
