On Sunday, after church, we decided to hike the Willow Canyon trail off Laguna Cyn Road. We got a fairly late start (10am), but it was cool...until we began the hike.
Right now the hills in South Orange County are green! It is truly beautiful. In another month or so, they will all be brown. This particular trail was 3.5 or so miles roundtrip. It begins with a wide fire road path that is so steep for the first 1.8 miles. Geez, if I would have know that, I probably would not have taken this path. The good thing was that I brought my walking poles and they always make the climb easier. This was a lush hillside at the beginning.
The trees are just starting to show signs of Spring. Little leaf buds are peeking out. One of the bike riders we passed yelled snake, but we did not see one. The snakes like to come onto the path to warm themselves up.
After the long steep hill, we turned right and began our decent into a beautiful, woodsy valley. There were trees, shade, meadows and the path became just wide enough for one person.
It was a wonderful day to be outside and we enjoyed every minute of it. It took us about 1hr and 45 min., but we stopped to admire the views and talked to a few people. I loved how the sea breeze came up during the second half of our hike and it cooled us off and the long grass in the meadow was waving with the breeze.

looks like a fun time. my husband and i picked up a rather odd sounding hobby from a book i read last year on geography, geocaching, but we love it because we are always out hiking to find them. to us geocaching is an excuse to go somewhere new. i don't care about the cache part, but it has taken us so many gorgeous places and for that i am thrilled we do it. just this week we have hiked in ancient redwood groves, wide rolling green hills and shady oak paths. i hear you on the horrid up hills and those creepy snakes, we try to do the scary snake places before April when they perk up again :-(
my legs are sore from hiking this week, i was just lamenting to my husband how we need a hot tub to relax in the cold sea air after all the walking we do here! fun to see your day trip, looks so much like ours~
