I'm doing a little before and after. This summer I got the bug to tidy up my garden. It was too mish mash and I needed structure. I have one glaring problem: my dog, Daisy, has some potent pee and has pretty much destroyed the grass. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do about it. I've tried giving her special bones that are meant to neutralize the acid in her pee so the grass wont turn brown, but you have to give her 5 a day and they stink to high heaven! So anyway, here is the end of the patio garden:
I've pretty much gone boxwood and alyssum crazy. Unity and structure. Easy and cohesive. I've put the David Austin rose in a pot so the sprinklers won't get it. The rose seems to be happy with the pot. See all the dead grass here. She's killed this whole side of the yard. I've already replaced it twice. I'm kinda at my wits end. Should I just replace it with gravel. BTW, I have some gravel, she prefers grass. She won't even go in the dirt of the grass she's already killed. Anyway, above is the before, below is the after.
I've had this weeping birch for about 5 years and it is really struggling. I might replace it with a weeping rose tree. I just have to find a home for the tree.

We really enjoy our fountain, one of the best decisions we've ever made. Birds like to get drinks and bath in the top shallow bowl. It is fun to watch.

good thing she is so adorable so you get a good trade off for her damage! what about no lawn, all flowers with just pathways? then give her a designated dog run off on the side somewhere, or do what we do at the beach, walk them off site and drain them elsewhere... even in gale force winds and 20 degrees i am out several times a day spreading their joy~
