Last night we went to the Segerstrom Performing Arts Center to see Rock of Ages. We were tired and didn't really feel like going, but we are glad we did. The story goes like this: In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small town girl met a big city rocker (sound familiar, Journey song) and in LA’s most famous rock club, they fell in love to the greatest songs of the 80s. It’s ROCK OF AGES, an arena-rock love story told through the mind-blowing, face-melting hits of JOURNEY, NIGHT RANGER, STYX, REO SPEEDWAGON, PAT BENATAR, TWISTED SISTER, POISON, ASIA, WHITESNAKE and many more. The music is loud and head banging. There is a cult like following in the audience. People are singing at the top of their lungs to the songs.

There are lots of scantily clad women doing their best stripper impersonations (this and the music were HH's favorite parts of the show). If your into 80's Rock, this show is for you.

Oh, and American Idol finalist, Constantine was the lead. He always bugged me on AI, but he was decent in this.

HAIR

Sunday, my friend Marie and I, saw HAIR. Yes, I missed the second half of the superbowl! I have never seen it before and didn't really know what it was about. Let me just say this, it is not for those under the age of 18. Sex, drugs, and the vietnam war is what it is all about. I feel sorry for those sitting in the front row at the beginning when the guy comes out and molests some poor unsuspecting soul. Haha! There is full frontal nudity. There were a lot of big hits from this musical. I recognized at least four from when I was a kid. It ends kind of sad, but I'm glad I saw it.

I love seeing these shows at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. There is a great selection of restaurants nearby, easy to access and inexpensive parking ($8.00), large, comfortable seating with a lot of space in front of you (this matters to people like my Handsome Husband, who is 6'4), and it is close to the freeway. It is also structurally beautiful.

Wicked

I'm am so excited about this season's musicals! I have only seen Wicked before and I am so excited to see all these great shows. Season tickets are not very expensive and they are something fun to do throughout the year. Really think about getting together with your spouse, a friend or a group of friends and getting tickets. I like the 6:30 Sunday night show, next to that I like the Saturday night showing. Saturday feels more like a date night, but Sunday is so hassle free and your home early.

West Side Story (I've only seen some of the legendary dance scenes)

Mary Poppins (so bummed when I missed it in L.A., but sooo happy to be seeing it at OCPAC)

The only thing that would make this better was if Chicago was included. It is one of my favs. Still waiting for it to come.

Rain: A Tribute To The Beatles

Last night, the Handsome Husband and I went to see Rain: A Tribute To The Beatles at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. The show took you from the Beatles first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show to works from their last album. It is amazing to think the Beatles were only known to America for 3 years, from 1964 to 1967. They really changed so much both in music and appearance during those 3 short years.
The show was fabulous! They had you stand up and dance and clap and it was very fun and interactive. Not to mention, the music was AWESOME! They covered a lot, but so many of my favorites were not played. I love the early years of the Beatles more than the later, but it was all good. They had so many great hits.

If you have a chance to see this show, you must. It was so fun. I didn't realize that I knew so many of their songs, I knew the words to every song they sang (which always makes it more enjoyable!)

Unusual Peacock

This wonderful and unusual peacock was found at Anthropologie. I can't decide which I like more, the clothes or the beautiful arts and crafts! It was made out of paper mache and pages from a book. I would totally sign up for any art class they offered. They could make a fortune every quarter teaching all of us how to make their wonderful display items. I wonder where they find this stuff? If they go to local art schools or if they have their own talented team? I always look forward to the seasonal change so I can be mesmerized by their window.

Legally Blonde

On Sunday, my friend Marie and I went to see Legally Blonde at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. It was very cute and light. We liked it! The audience was a total change from the usual. It was filled was young girls. Such a change from last month when we saw Fiddler on the Roof!
