Volleyball Festival-Reno

I just got back from 4 days in lovely Reno, Nevada.  I have to thank my friends, the O'Tooles for driving me around, giving me a great hotel reservation and leaving the third game of the finals to take me to the airport.   Delaney and her team played great and amazed us!   I should also mention at this point, that our setter, Tayler, has strep throat and is feeling horrible.  She is living on antibiotics and Advil.  But having said that, she has done a tremendous job and has not complained!  Poor baby.  (The above pictures are not from Reno, but have been taken at tournaments throughout the year.)

The girls entered the tournament at 14 in Division one Gold.  You goal all year is to make it or stay in division one, gold.  The first day was super easy.  The girls played numbers 128, 98 and 100.  If the girls would have lost to any of these teams, they would have switch numbers with them and could have lost all chances of finishing in the top 16.  (There are 16 teams in division one, gold.) No Sweat, they beat them.  The next day, we played teams 52 and 20.  We lost to the 20 team in three games with a very close score.  So now we are ranked 20. Since we lost, we now have to play twice as many games to try to get back in the top 16.  If we would have won, we would have one more game to play, but since we lost, we had three.  We played 36 and won, we played 30 and won, now we have to play team 14 and try to get our spot back.  We play the same team we lost our number to.  This time we win!  Yeah!!!! It is also 10:00 pm when we start and 11:00 when we finish and the girls have to be back at 10:00 the next morning.  But we don't care, we won.  All the coaches from our club came to support us in this late game and it made the girls feel great.

The next day, On Tuesday we play the 3rd place team and lose in 3, but we keep our 14 rank. We play 11 and win, we become 11, we then play 5 and lose, bummer.  We are still 11.  The best we can do now is 9 and the worst is 15.

Wednesday we play number 13 and win, we play number 10 and win, we then play number nine for the Champion Contender division and win in three!!!! Whooo-hooo!!!  The girls get a trophy and they end the season in the top 16.  Way to go!
