There is nothing more important to a good, solid, fast paced workout than music. I have a new routine in the morning and for the cardio portion, I try to burn 700 calories each morning. If you are not talking to your friends, you need music to pump you up!!! Nothing is worse than going along at a good pace and then being slowed down by a slow song. My girlfriend was getting exasperated by having to change songs all the time during her workout. I told her to make a "workout" playlist. I got this idea from my husband, who has been working out forever and cannot live without his ipod. Every song must be face paced, nothing slow. You have to be picky. I don't even like songs that start out slow and build up, they just wreck your pace. Pick songs that make you want to dance, songs you love, you will be listening to them alot and pick way more than you think you need. Sometimes I start my playlist at the beginning, sometimes in the middle and sometimes at the end. Looking at my playlist, I'm embarrased. You would think I'm only 17, but I just have to accept who I am...
Here is my playlist:
Pretty Girl (The Way) by Sugarcult (love Sugarcult)
Piece of Me = Brittany Spears
Mercy-Duffy
The Way I Are - Timbaland
Just Dance - Lady Gaga
What You Waiting For - Gwen Stefani (FAVORITE)
Paralyzed - Rock Kills Kid
Waiting for Tonight - Jennifer Lopez
Gimme More- Brittany Spears
Dirty - Christina Aquilera
Sexy Back - Justin Timberlake
Shut Up and Drive - Rhianna
Rich Girl - Gwen Stefani
The Sweet Escape - Gwen Stefani
Fergalicious - Fergie
Disturbia - Rhianna
There were so many songs that I picked that I thought were fast, by the Rolling Stones, Beatles etc. But I found that I respond better to songs with a dance beat. You will find the best ones for you through trial and error.

Love it. You sound like you are drawn to the same kind of music that makes me want to dance also. The Way I Are is one of my FAVORITES, Piece of Me and Gimme More were definitely played a MILLION times two winters ago, and at every party we had two summers ago, Dirrty was my favorites song to dance to one semester in college, I listened to The Sweet Escape on repeat just after moving to New York, and I couldn't get enough of Disturbia last fall (notice how these all bring back memories?) :) Actually Disturbia and Womanizer go hand in hand because they were next to each other on my playlist. :)
Add "Imma Be" by the Black Eyed Peas to your list. You will thank me. It's got a good beat the whole way through and also at one point it gets REALLY good and honestly, you CAN'T help but dance. This is one song when I'm listening on the subway it is nearly impossible to keep myself from sort of bobbing up and down.
Oh yeah, this one's old school but Kanye's Work Out is also really good. Great beat the whole way through. I always thought it would make for an awesome cheer dance.
You're welcome. :)
Great idea, Janie!! I recognize a few of the songs, but if you exersize all the time they should all get familiar, right?

Enjoy the workout, Janie. What a nice routine!...Christine
Thanks for the suggestions for music. I too need music with a good beat to get me moving also.
I've never heard of a third of them. Guess having teen/twenties daughters keeps you hip...and fit. ; )
Love, Cyn
