Le Vieux Manoir, Amboise, France

We spent 6 nights at this wonderfully peaceful, beautiful, and charming B&B in Amboise.  The owners are Gloria and Bob and they proved to be delightfully friendly and informative hosts.  They are American having lived on both coasts of the U.S. Gloria will give you directions and help you plan your day while at the same time giving you historic tidbits about the places you plan on seeing.  She will also recommend places that are not as well known but good to see. She will make dinner reservations for you, which is a must, as it is a small town and the restaurants all require reservations.  There is no wandering the streets and picking a restaurant and sitting down.  You MUST have a reservation!  The property is well maintained and the house is gorgeous.  The B&B is number 1 on Tripadvisor and received their 2014 Award for Excellence!  The website is here.  Tripadvisor page is here.

You will travel along this charming path and through this beautiful garden everyday.  There is a table and chairs under the big tree to enjoy the morning or evening and share in the wifi.  We got lunch one day from the weekly outdoor market and ate it here.  It was wonderful.
This is the library, although we spent most of our time in the living room with Gloria and Bob. Which I do not have a picture of.
Every morning between 8:30 and 9:30, they serve this wonderful breakfast.  Granola, fresh breads, jams, butter, and cheese... and at your seat; fresh, ripe fruit, yogurt, juice and coffee or tea.  The bread and yogurt were especially delicious.  Breakfast is served in the conservatory with a wonderful view of the garden.

Conservatory for breakfast.  Fresh flowers everyday, too!

 The back garden.

For the first 4 nights we were there, we stayed in the George Sands room.  I really liked this room, it was quiet and had a nice breeze that blew through the windows.  It had a fully separate bathroom and a dresser to put your clothes in.  Fabulous room.  Pics of room via website.

There is now a different picture above the bed which we loved of the Hudson River Valley.
The view from the bathroom window.
Because we booked kinda late, we had to switch rooms for our last couple of nights.  It was fine by me, she asked me if it was ok when we made our reservation.  It was the only way she could accommodate us.  So we moved to The Madame de Lafayette Room.

We also really liked this room, it was open and airy but no dresser and the bathroom was not completely separate, but still totally convenient.

There are two apartments on the property with multiple rooms and I went into the one that is attached to the house and it is beautiful and charming.  They stock your refrigerator daily and if you have a family, it is the way to go.
This is the view from the street.  The gate was a little tricky getting into with the car, but we did it without a scratch!

The property is a 5 minute walk to all the shops and restaurants, the river, and the chateau.  We chose Amboise because it is a fair size town and in the middle of all the chateau.  It was a great place to use as a base to explore from everyday.

I cannot recommend this property enough.  One of the best places I've ever stayed.  I should mention also, that I am not a B&B person, but this has definitely opened my eyes to the personalized service you can receive at a small, friendly place like this.
