The Royal Fortress of Chinon

After we left the Chateau d"Usse, we headed down the road to Chinon.  Chinon is a medieval town and fortress that is captivating.  The town itself is so picturesque with lots of restaurants, shops, and hotels.  This is the entrance to the fortress, we almost missed it.
This is the tower that Joan of Arc rode her horse through to visit Charles VII in 1429 and convinced him to give her an army to fight the English.  Joan of Arc's story is very interesting and is worth a read.
The fortress overlooks the medieval town that is very picturesque and inviting.

You can go through the castle and they show a film of the history, unfortunately, it is a very slow moving film and I felt bored.  Also, it is not in English, so I couldn't understand the speaking parts, but there were few.  I do think it was well done, just too slow for me.
You take an elevator from the fortress down into the town and we found the town was so beautiful.

The river front is full of cute shops and we found the most delicious chocolate shop.  I love the bright colors of this floral shop, I would have loved to have bought something there. The street is lined with majestic old trees that provide shade on a hot day.  I definitely recommend going here for a day of sightseeing, shopping and lunch.
