Little birdie is building a nest!

For more great outdoors fun, click on asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com

If you look closely at the left window of the birdhouse, you will see the tail of a little sparrow that is building a nest inside my birdhouse!!!!  At first I was really excited! I ran and got my camera and tried to take pictures out my window.  Very hard to do, she is a fast little bugger!  I watched her flit all around the back yard gathering materials to build her nest.  What a hard little worker she is.  Back and forth, back and forth, gathering, gathering, gathering.  Oh, how sweet!  Until it dawned on me that she is sooo close to the table.  She will freak out if we try to sit at it.  And what about when I water?  I always take the hose right by there, she's not gonna like it!  And when the babie birds hatch, what a mess!  That birdhouse has been in my backyard for 5 years and no bird has given it a second look!
Here she is on top of the Australian moss to the left of the birdhouse.  EEEOOOWWW, what are we in for???

We had the same problem (I don't know if that's the right word) last summer. A robin built a nest in my wreath hanging on the front porch. Everytime we went out the door, mama tried to flog us, so until the birds were big enough to fly away, we just didn't use the front door. They are VERY protective aren't they? Good luck.

Welcome to Outdoor Wednesday Janie! Love your pictures! We had a front door issue to with birds...so we used the garage door for awhile! Thanks for sharing your photos.

What great pictures, and I love that birdhouse. We had a birdhouse in our backyard that had never been used, my husband looked into it one day and BOY did he get a surprise when a bird flew out and almost into his face! I laughed so hard I thought I was going to fall down. Needless to say he ignores it now lol. Kathy

Something tells me she is going to claim that part of your porch as her own. That means she might be protective of that area. The good news is you get to watch something wonderful occur. :-)

That birdhouse is adorable. I don't blame that little sparrow one bit for turning on the porch light.

Happy Outdoor Wednesday...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Hi Janie,

You should feel honored that, after five years, this little mother chose to accept your hospitality. Just think of the pleasure you'll have observing the hatchlings and then the fledglings. More posts for Outdoor Wednesday!

All the best, Lana @ Showers of Blessings

Was it a mixed feeling then for you? It's cute to finally have a mother bird choose your lovely birdhouse for her nest but at the same time a little problem since she demands no disturbance while her babies are still staying? :-)

Hi Janie,

Love your name by the way! Your birdhouse is adorable, I can see why little Miss Sparrow chose it for her nest! You may scare her away, but maybe not not if she gets used to your activity slowly. It would be awful if she got scared and abandoned her babies! :-(

I love your backyard & can't wait to see more pictures this summer!

Happy OW! :-)
