Why does this happen?

This is one of my pet peeves!  Why does this happen?  The flowers don't open, they just nod their beautiful heads and dry up!  The water has the special added ingredient, there are no leaves in the water and the water is fresh.  I've had this happen to flowers delivered from the florist as well.  Beautiful bouquets that are very expensive - never open!  I find it happens alot and that is why I don't really care to buy flowers from the florist! (Sorry Stacy!)  I always tell my husband not to order me flowers for any special occasion because this always happens (especially to roses).  It bums me out!

Hmmm...I'd like to know the answer to that, too...that has happened to me on many occasions...I even trim my stems before I place them in new water. If you find out please let us know!

The problem is air pockets or embolisms in the stems. When you get them you need to recut the stems but you must do it under water (the stem, not you)so that a drop of water will cling to the end as you transfer this to your vase that already has water in it. That drop of water will keep out the air and the stem won't be blocked.

Oh yes and make sure you keep doing what you are doing by adding the little packet and keeping the leaves out of the water. Bacteria will cause the same problem too.

Wow, Janie, what a FUN table. I love those zebra plates and that bright pink boa just POPS on that table.

You're right. Why leave all the fun to the kids? :)
